TREASURE VALLEY COMMUNITY COLLEGE TO OFFER BACHELOR’S DEGREE IN EDUCATION

TVCC was among five community colleges approved for bachelor’s program to address teacher shortage

ONTARIO, Ore. (April 29, 2026) — Treasure Valley Community College is proud to announce it is one of five community colleges to receive approval to offer Bachelor of Applied Science in Education (BASE) degrees!

The approval from the Higher Education Coordinating Commission (HECC) came this month after the dedicated work by a consortium of schools which included TVCC, as well as Chemeketa, Columbia Gorge, Linn-Benton, and Rogue Community Colleges.

“This is a momentous step forward for Treasure Valley Community College to support workforce development in eastern Oregon and address a dire teaching shortage,” said TVCC President Dr. Dana M. Young. “We view this transformational program as a compliment to the established teacher preparation programs and remain committed to those partnerships. I’m so proud of our team for securing approval for this program, and grateful to my partner institutions for everything we did together for Oregon community colleges.”

The BASE degree was designed in partnership with school districts across the state to help with several specific issues, including:

  • Teacher shortages, especially in rural areas
  • Creating a pathway to becoming a licensed teacher for paraprofessionals and other members of the community
  • Fostering an in-state pipeline by keeping teachers and soon-to-be teachers in Oregon

Program start dates will be determined pending final approval from the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities, the accrediting body of colleges in the region.
