All Wildland Fire classes sponsored by Treasure Valley Community College meet or exceed federal course standards as outlined by the National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG).

TVCC is an active partner with local and regional federal and state agencies to provide training opportunities for current agency personnel, private fire contractors and individuals seeking employment as firefighters. Many of these courses have pre-requisite requirements in order to register. Space is limited and there are enrollment Pre-registration deadlines.

Thank you for your interest in taking a class with the Center for Business, Workforce, & Community Learning at Treasure Valley Community College. To ensure the integrity of student information and accounts at Treasure Valley Community College, TVCC has implemented measures to ensure only verified individuals may enroll in classes. If you have not attended any classes at TVCC or you do not have a TVCC ID number, you must submit a new application to Treasure Valley Community College. The application process can take up to 14 days and will create your Student Account and Identification number at TVCC. There is no application fee. 

There is a Non-Degree Seeking Student option for those students interested in taking classes for personal enrichment or career development at TVCC.  This option does not require placement testing, FAFSA information or Academic Advising. CBWCL Payment Policy: Payment in full, purchase order, or nomination form is due 2 weeks before class start date in order to hold your seat in class. In order to receive a refund student must fill out a drop form a minimum of 2 weeks before class. No Show students are not eligible for a refund. 

If your employer is paying for your class and they are NOT using a nomination form, please provide them with the Third Party Enrollment and Billing Form required by the Business Office. They will need to submit the form so that you are not charged for the classes you are taking. How to Pay: Students must first be accepted to Treasure Valley Community College and registered for a class to make payment. Students are not permited to submit payment before the registration period is open. Your assigned Student Identification Number is mandatory and required for payment processing.

S-130/S-190 Basic Firefighter II (NATR 101)

Feb 21, 22, 28 & Mar 1, 2026 (Two Weekends)

April 4, 5, & 12, 2026 (Two Weekends)

Cost: $250 per person

Course includes S-130 Firefighter Training, S-190 Introduction to Fire Behavior, I-100 Introduction to ICS and L-180 Human Factors. Field exercise requires boots and gloves.

Fire Shelter is required prior to certification as an entry-level Firefighter (FFT2)

S-131/S-133 Advanced Fire Fighter (NATR 121)

March 16 & 17, 2026

Cost: $145 per person

Course provides additional instruction at the Advanced Firefighter/Squad Boss (FFT1) level including training on tactics and safety. S-211 is designed to teach students 
PREREQUISITES: S-130/S-190/L-180 Qualified FFT 2 plus 1 year of actual field experience

S-200 Initial Attack IC (NATR 109)

April 23-24, 2026

Cost: $145 per person

This course will provide the individual in charge of the initial attack of small, non-complex fires, the training needed for size-up, deployment of forces, suppression, mop up, communications, and administrative duties.

Pre-Course Work Instructions
(Complete the pre-course work, which is based on the "Apollo 13" movie. Note: You will need to watch the Apollo 13 movie, by renting or obtaining elsewhere, as part of this pre-course work.)

PREREQUISITES: S-130/190, S-290, S-230. Qualified as any single resource boss.
* A minimum of 10 registrants is required for this class.

S-212 Wildfire Power Saws (NATR 202)

May 16-18, 2026

Cost: $250 per person

Wildland Fire Chain Saws, S-212, is an instructor-led course intended to be presented at the local level. The course lessons provide introduction to the function, maintenance and use of internal combustion engine powered chain saws, and their tactical Wildland fire application. Field exercises support entry level training for firefighters with little or no previous experience in operating a chain saw, providing hands-on cutting experience in surroundings similar to fireline situations. 
* Successful completion for entry level. Does not constitute certified Faller designation. 
(Students will be required to provide the following: Chainsaw, gloves, boots, safety goggles, snacks & sack lunch)

PREREQUISITES: Basic First Aid and CPR card.

S-215 Fire Operations in the Urban Interface (NATR 116)

April 20-22, 2026

Cost: $239 per person

Meets training needs for initial attack incident commanders and company officers confronting wildland fire threatening life, property, and improvements. Units include: size-up, initial strategy and action plan, structure triage, tactics, action plan assessment, public relations and follow-up and safety.
PREREQUISITES: S-130/S-190, S-131 Qualified as firefighter type 1.
* A minimum of 10 registrants is required for this class.

S-230 Crew Boss - Single Resource (NATR 115)

April 13-14, 2026

Cost: $200 per person

This course trains individuals for Single Resource Boss positions (Engine, Crew, Heavy Equipment, Firing), covering operational leadership, preparation, mobilization, risk management, entrapment avoidance, safety, tactics, offline duties, demobilization, and post-incident responsibilities, ensuring proficiency from initial dispatch to return to the home unit. Required for all Single Resource Boss roles. 

PREREQUISITES: S-290 Required, S-130/S-190, Qualified FFT1

S-231 Engine Boss - Single Resource (NATR 117)

April 15-16, 2026

S-231 is an interactive course that provides examples and exercises specific to the performance and duties of an engine boss.

S-219 Firing Operation (WORK 0901)

TBA: Fall Term 2026

Cost: $200 per person

The course introduces the roles and responsibilities of a Firing
Boss, Single Resource (FIRB), and outlines duties of other
personnel who may engage firing operations. The course
discusses and illustrates common firing devices and techniques.
The course provides students with important information regarding
general tasks required to be successful.

PREREQUISITES: Qualified as FFT2
* A minimum of 10 registrants is required for this class.

S-211 Portable Pumps & Water Use (NATR 203)

TBA: Fall Term 2026

Cost: $240 per person

This course is designed to provide knowledge and skills to design, setup, operate, troubleshoot, and shut down portable water delivery systems. The focus is on portable pumps – it does not address water delivery for engines. Topics covered include: portable water delivery systems; equipment; roles and responsibilities; and system design and hydraulics.  There is also a field exercise where students will
apply what they learned in the classroom.

PREREQUISITES: S130/190/L180 Qualified as FFT 2

L-280 Followership to Leadership (NATR 102)

March 9-11, 2026

Cost: $145 per person

This training course is designed as a self-assessment opportunity for individuals preparing to step into a leadership role. The course combines one day of classroom instruction followed by a second day in the field with students working through a series of problem solving events in small teams (Field Leadership Assessment Course).

PREREQUISITES: L-180, experience on incident assignments in operations or support functions.
* A minimum of 10 registrants is required for this class.

S-290 Intermediate Fire Behavior (NATR 104)

April 20-22, 2026

Cost: $250 per person

S-290 is designed to meet training requirements to work in the ICS Operations Section as a Single Resource Boss. Course will instruct prospective fireline supervisors in wildland fire behavior for effective and safe fire management operations. Weather portion taught by a meteorologist.

PREREQUISITES: S-130/S-190, plus one year experience recommended.

Refresh skills in applying the risk management process and rules of engagement to recognize and mitigate hazards in their work environment. Updates on current issues and fire shelter deployment practice.

M-410 Facilitative Instructor (WORK 0921)

January 26-30, 2026

Cost: $550 per person

This 36-hour course trains existing and potential instructors on how to prepare and present effective training programs. Key areas include written performance and instructional objectives, preparation of lesson plans, preparation and operation of audio-visual aids and equipment, various methods of communication, individual and team presentations, management of classroom learning environments and use of testing procedures. Evening break-out sessions and actual classroom demonstrations and presentations are integral parts of this course. 8 -16 hours of pre-work are required. Meets NWCG standards as outlined in the M410 guidelines.

Wildland Fire Training Cancellation Policy

All fire classes sponsored by TVCC meet or exceed federal National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) standards. Upon successful course completion, students will receive Certificates of Completion from Treasure Valley Community College in Ontario, Oregon.

CBWCL Payment Policy: Purchase order, nomination form, or payment is due a minimum of 2 weeks before class date in order to hold your seat in class. We do not reserve spaces without pre-payment. In order to receive a refund student must fill out a drop form a minimum of 2 weeks before class. No Show students are not eligible for a refund.

Space is limited for all classes. To avoid course cancellation, REGISTER EARLY by filling out the TVCC Application and then submiting a Registration Form. 

CANCELLATION / REFUND POLICY
TVCC reserves the right to cancel a class for which there is insufficient enrollment. If this should happen, we will either reschedule the class or provide a full refund of class and materials fee.

STUDENT REGISTRATION CANCELLATION / NO-SHOW POLICY
If you are unable to attend the course,  you are responsible for filling out and submitting the DROP Form or contacting the Center for Business Workforce and Community Learning at least 24 hours in advance; otherwise the full amount of tuition will be charged to the student or agency. Failure to come to class (no-show) will also result in being charged the full amount.
